Facial hair transplants for beards, mustaches, goatees, and eyebrows have become the rage. Dr. Bruce Marko, ‘Board Certified Hair Restoration Surgeon’ and Medical Director of ADVANCED HAIR TRANSPLANTS in Charlotte says, “I’m getting two or three calls a week for facial hair restoration”.
If you lost your eyebrows due to over plucking, or they’re too thin or even non-existent, you might want to consider facial hair restoration surgery. Dr. Marko says he also covers eyebrow tattoos with hair to make them look more natural?
You might ask, ‘Why would someone have hair transplant surgery for thicker eyebrows?’ The answer: Eyebrows accentuate your eyes and make you look younger. Eyebrows give you character. The loss of eyebrow hair from over plucking, hormonal issues, radiation or other factors, can cause a loss of self-esteem and cause us to be self-consciousness about our appearance.
Men, you don’t have to be a hipster to want a fuller, thicker beard. Although the hipster population has gone through many fads including plaids and skinny jeans, none of these have been more important than facial hair. And, hipsters are not the only wants wanting better looking beards.
Beards are in, and the inability to grow a thick one is annoying to a lot of men. At least, that’s how it appears based on the surge of facial hair transplants. Dr. Marko says, “I perform a lot of beard and goatee hair transplants. Many younger men have minimal facial hair and want to look more masculine, and other men have patchy beards and want them filled in with more density.”
“I had a patient with no hair on his face. I performed a facial hair transplant to create a goatee for him. It took a full year to grow in, but it looks good and he’s really happy with it, Dr. Marko said.”
“The demand for facial hair transplants to restore sideburns and mustaches has also increased, according to Dr. Marko. They are stylish and in vogue.”
So how does it work?
“It is an artistic and meticulous FUE procedure,” Dr. Marko explained. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) surgery involves removing individual hair follicles from the patient’s donor area in the back of the head. The individual follicles are then surgically implanted one at a time, at a precise angle and direction to create a facial hair masterpiece.”
The healing process takes about a week, and the hair will start growing in around three to four months. The entire process takes a year to complete. When it’s all said and done, patients have a natural looking beard that will last a lifetime.
