PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

Advanced Hair Transplants offers PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), a Non-Surgical Procedure for hair restoration.

HOW IT WORKS

Our blood is made of two main components, red blood cells, and plasma. The plasma contains white blood cells and platelets, which are rich in growth factors.

Growth factors basically signal skin cells to function. They have been used in medicine to treat health issues such as arthritis, muscle tears, and signs of aging on the face. For men and women with thinning hair, this is good news because the growth factors can “help stimulate the activity of the hair follicles and promote new hair growth.”

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a good treatment option for hair loss. There are many scientifically based articles showing its efficacy increasing hair count, hair thickness, and the growth phase of the hair cycle.  PRP has been gaining popularity around the world within the last few years.

THE PROCESS

The process to use PRP for hair regrowth begins with a standard blood draw from the patient’s arm. The tube of blood is then placed into a machine called a centrifuge, which spins the blood tube to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. The plasma is rich in platelets, and is injected into the thinning area of the scalp. It is meticulous process. Injections are made approximately every half inch over the area of thinning hair, the entire procedure takes about an hour to complete.

Anyone experiencing hair loss is essentially a good candidate for PRP treatments. PRP is best used for patients with androgenic alopecia, which is a genetically determined type of hair thinning that typically occurs along the top of the head. In women, it appears as a widening part in the center of the scalp, with normal hair thickness in the back of the head.

For best results, consistency is key. Treatments are performed once a month for the first four months, and then every three to six months thereafter, depending on the individual patient’s response and results.

Patients usually note decreased hair shedding, followed by early regrowth and increased length of hair. For optimal results, the general consensus is receiving treatments every three to six months on a long-term. This regimen will continue to stimulate the growth factors and stem cells that are associated with regrowth and will stop hair from falling out.

You should consider PRP as part of a multifaceted program to treat hair thinning and hair loss. Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), Rogaine (Minoxidil), Propecia (Finasteride) in conjunction with PRP will give you even more benefit.
