Frequently Asked Questions

What causes hair loss?

The most common cause of hair loss is genetics. The gene for hair loss is inherited from either or both parents. Men are most commonly affected by a male hormone called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). Take a look at your grandfather, your Dad, your Uncles, your Grandmother, your Mother, your Aunt … on either side of the family. If they lost their hair, you might lose yours too.

Does hair restoration really work?

Yes. The restored hair is moved from the back and sides of the scalp. These hair follicles are genetically programmed to grow for a lifetime. The hair maintains the same color characteristics, same texture, curl, and growth rate.

Is hair restoration surgery painful?

Most men and women are surprised by how little pain there really is with this procedure. The discomfort is usually during the time when the anesthesia is injected into the scalp. After the skin is anesthetized, the scalp is numb, and there is virtually no pain. If the Lidocaine (numbing agent) wears off during the procedure, the patient gets another dose of the medication.

What will it look like after the procedure?

The micro-incisions where the follicles are transplanted form tiny scabs (crusts) the first couple days after the procedure. If a man or woman still has hair on their scalp, creative styling will camouflage these scabs (crusts). If a person has no hair at all, the scabs are typically gone in about a week.

When can I go back to work?

Most doctors recommend you relax a few days after surgery. The less active you are during this critical time frame, the less chance you have of dislodging any transplanted follicles. Depending on the type of work you do, you could return to work a few days after the procedure. The surgeon will discuss the specific details with you during your Free Consultation.

How much does a Hair Transplant Surgery cost?

Typically, doctors charge by the graft or “follicular unit”, and the pricing can vary from $3 per graft to $7 per graft depending on the doctor and procedure you choose.

The problem with charging by the graft is the fact that most people don’t know how many hairs are in a graft. Do you know how many hairs are in your grafts? Probably not.

Theoretically, any doctor motivated by money can tell you he’s going to transplant a thousand grafts. Depending on his integrity, you could get 1,000 hairs, 3,000 hairs or 6,000 hairs. Unfortunately, two different doctors could transplant 1000 grafts on twin brothers and get a totally different result. The “result”… the ‘outcome’… depends on how many hairs you’re actually getting from the procedure. Are you getting 1000 one hair grafts, 1000 two hair grafts or…1,000 grafts that consist of 2, 3, and 4 hair grafts?

Dr. Bruce Marko’s passion is to move as much hair as possible, and give you the best result! With 15 years experience in hair transplant surgery, his goal is to change the industry. Change the procedure and give his patients a BETTER RESULT.

For this reason he created his trademarked MAX DENSITY® hair restoration procedure. Instead of charging by the graft, you are charged by the amount of hair (donor tissue) removed from the donor area.  The tissue is measured and photographed for every patient, and you will know exactly how much hair you’re getting.

There is an average of 200 hairs per sq. cm. on a person’s scalp.  If Dr. Marko removes 30 sq. cm. of tissue, and we multiply it times 200, it equals 6000 hairs.  Some patients will get more hair, but 200 hairs per sq. cm. is considered low to average density.

Elasticity of the scalp and the size of a patient’s donor area play an important part in any hair restoration procedure. For most patients the yield is 6,000-8,000 hairs!

A critical component of the procedure is the surgical team. Are they experienced and passionate about what they do? Do they love the artistic process of hair transplantation and work in synergy with the surgeon to achieve the best result? Are they wanting to just “get it done” or do it right?

Performing a hair restoration surgery correctly, with an experienced team, will result in a maximum density result. Our goal is to give you the most hair possible in one procedure! The most density possible!! This is why Dr. Marko created the MAX DENSITY® hair transplant procedure.
